From new family attractions and world-class theme parks to cultural celebrations, history, dining and walkable downtown experiences, San Antonio is the place for summer travel.
San Antonio’s deep cultural roots and rich history remain at the heart of the visitor experience.
The Briscoe Western Art Museum will debut Tejano Legacy: Another American Origin Story in July 2026. The expansive bilingual exhibition explores nearly 400 years of Tejano history, heritage and culture and opens in connection with America’s 250th anniversary. A companion exhibition, Selena Forever / Siempre Selena, opens 4th June.
Along the River Walk, Fiesta Noche del Rio continues on weekends at the Arneson River Theatre, celebrating music, dance, culture and colourful costumes in one of San Antonio’s most iconic settings.
Visitors can also enjoy family-friendly Fourth of July celebrations at San Antonio’s theme parks and throughout the city, including family-friendly programming at the Alamo.
Downtown continues to evolve as well. At the Alamo, the Texas Cavaliers Education Center just opened, as well as the new pedestrian-friendly promenade entryway as part of the broader $700 million Alamo Plan.
Also in the heart of the city, Mexico Ceaty is bringing a new dining, entertainment and cultural destination to The Shops at Rivercenter. Created by the Jason Dady Restaurant Group, Mexico Ceaty features an expansive restaurant, live food stations, bars, social spaces, retail, live music, artisan features and interactive demonstrations, creating a living culinary and cultural experience downtown.
San Antonio delivers the full vacation experience while remaining wallet friendly. Known as the “Theme Park Capital of Texas,” the city offers nearly 200 rides and experiences across four major theme parks with accessible ticket prices. Visitors can also enjoy iconic free and low-cost attractions such as the River Walk, the Alamo and the San Antonio Missions. Once downtown, San Antonio’s walkability means a car is totally unnecessary.
San Antonio’s summer lineup is filled with new attractions and returning favorites.
At Six Flags Fiesta Texas, guests can enjoy Fiesta Luz, a new nightly drone spectacular featuring more than 175 illuminated drones. The show will evolve throughout the season, first spotlighting the park’s themed areas and attractions, then shifting after July 4 to celebrate the park’s history and future, including previews of its 35th anniversary season in 2027. Families can also look forward to classic Looney Tunes characters and the largest DC Universe theme park area in the U.S.
San Antonio is also home to one-of-a-kind experiences that continue to set the destination apart.
Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first and only fully accessible theme park, recently debuted WingZ of Wonder, a 39-foot-tall interactive tower ride designed for all guests to enjoy. Morgan’s Hotel – the world’s first ultra-accommodating hotel is scheduled to open this fall. or
At the San Antonio Zoo, the new Congo Falls habitat marks the return of gorillas to the zoo after more than 35 years. The two-acre immersive experience highlights innovative habitat design, conservation, education and exceptional animal care while allowing guests to come face-to-face with gorillas in a dynamic environment. The zoo also features Zoorassic Park through September, with 16 larger-than-life animatronic dinosaurs throughout the zoo. In summer 2026, the zoo is also scheduled to open the Brewer Ocean Conservation Lab, a new facility focused on coral conservation, restoration, research and education.
Just north of San Antonio, Schlitterbahn offers 70 acres of waterpark fun, including 40 attractions, thrill rides, relaxing rivers and experiences tied to the spring-fed Comal River. New for 2026 is Wasserbahn Racers, a three-lane, face-first mat racing slide built into the natural hillside near the Comal River. The attraction combines speed, friendly competition and scenic Hill Country views.
At SeaWorld San Antonio, guests can experience Barracuda Strike, Texas’ first inverted family coaster. The park’s popular Electric Ocean summer nighttime programme also returns with entertainment, and a drone show. At Aquatica, Aqua Glow is back with a high-energy, neon-lit night-time waterpark experience featuring the Dazzling Light Tunnel, Glowing Tree Trail, Foam Party Frenzy, music, lights and after-dark attractions.
From theme parks and waterparks to cultural exhibitions, historic landmarks, culinary discoveries and walkable downtown adventures, San Antonio offers a summer getaway that is close, convenient and full of unforgettable moments.
