The Louisiana Office of Tourism has targeted the UK as its top priority for international tourism recovery.  The delegation headed by Assistant Secretary of Tourism Doug Bourgeois, has just completed an intense two week in market campaign to put the Pelican state high on the “book-it list” for British visitors.

The campaign included participation at key travel trade events; Brand USA Travel Week and World Travel Market, where a large delegation including representatives from New Orleans, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Ascension Parish held meetings with tour operators, airlines and travel agents.

In addition, LOT participated in the Jazz FM Awards on 28th October 2021, which saw Louisiana native Jon Batiste win 2021 Soul Act of the Year and Album of the Year.

The campaign also included a fleet of Louisiana branded taxis, which will be travelling around London promoting Louisiana for the next three months.

On Tuesday 2nd November 2021, travel magazine Wanderlust named the Louisiana Office of Tourism (LOT) among the world’s best campaign responses to the pandemic at its international awards ceremony inside London’s Kensington Palace. Voted by a panel of travel industry insiders, LOT were awarded the bronze certificate for their “Louisiana Sunshine Plan”. Wanderlust is the UK’s leading travel magazine for independent-minded and adventurous travellers.

Louisiana was further honoured with a bronze award for most desirable region for long haul UK travellers for the “Deep South USA” partnership with Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana.

Assistant Secretary of Tourism Doug Bourgeois, said, “It is a great honour to be recognised for our continuing work to keep Louisiana top of mind to our international travellers. Especially in the UK market that is the second leading market to bring international visitors to our state”.

LOT have invested in the UK market continuously throughout the pandemic, hosting virtual events, meetings, trainings and webinars to offer support to travel trade partners and media.  UK Account Director, Neil Jones commented “It was important to support our colleagues in market and maintain relationships, understanding that this would put us in the best position to be ready for recovery as soon as borders open”.

The British Airways direct service between London and New Orleans will restart on 9th December 2021 and will operate three times a week on Thursday, Sunday and Tuesday.
