Boston USA is launching a new international outreach campaign this month, ‘Welcome World’ designed to invite travellers from around the globe to experience the city during a landmark summer of events.
The campaign highlights Boston’s renowned hospitality and celebrates the city’s role as a welcoming destination not only for sports fans travelling to the FIFA World Cup, but for all visitors drawn to the city during the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
“We are so proud of this campaign and the message it conveys,” said Meet Boston President & CEO Martha J. Sheridan. “We have an amazing draw for the World Cup, perhaps the most compelling of all host cities if you look at search and booking data, and we want all to feel welcomed here for this historic summer, one like we’ve never experienced before. The central theme of this campaign is that Boston embraces all.”
A packed programme of events will showcase Boston’s rich history, culture and diversity. Highlights include Sail Boston, which will bring the largest-ever fleet of tall ships to Boston Harbor this July, alongside a series of new exhibitions exploring the story of the United States through multicultural and multidisciplinary perspectives across Boston’s 23 neighbourhoods. On the 4th of July, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular will feature a dynamically diverse lineup of Grammy Award-winning artists including Chance the Rapper, Lainey Wilson, and Trombone Shorty.
Through the campaign, Boston positions itself as a world-class destination defined by energy, openness and a spirit of global connection. At the heart of the activation is Welcome World, a one-minute film that follows hospitality workers, restaurateurs, tour guides, small business owners and local communities as they prepare to welcome visitors from around the globe. (no usage restrictions)
Set to a reimagined version of the classic song He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands, the film celebrates the inclusive spirit of Bostonians and the people who work every day to make their city one of the most welcoming destinations in the United States of America.
Boston’s reputation as a safe and accessible destination has also been recognised internationally. Football Ground Guide recently used the City Safety Index to rank all 16 FIFA World Cup host cities from safest to most concerning. Boston achieved the highest overall score, receiving 60.1 points out of 100—almost double the score of the lowest-ranked city.
The ranking places Boston ahead of fellow North American host cities including Vancouver and Toronto, while also outperforming all other US host destinations. The full rankings can be viewed via Football Ground Guide.
